Teenage girl killed in minibus accident close to school

Tragedy struck North Yorkshire when a teenage girl lost her life and another sustained serious injuries following a collision between a minibus and a car, authorities reported. The incident occurred on Toulston Lane, near Tadcaster Grammar School, around 12:30 GMT.

Emergency responders were called after a white Mercedes Sprinter minibus collided with a Hyundai i10. The minibus carried nine passengers, aged 16 to 18, in addition to the driver, at the time of the crash.

North Yorkshire Police confirmed that the Hyundais driver, a 40-year-old woman, has been arrested as part of the investigation. The other minibus passengers and its driver received medical treatment for minor injuries.

The minibus was heading towards Sherburn when the Hyundai entered Toulston Lane from Rudgate, according to police. Authorities have closed Toulston Lane while investigations continue.

Impact on Local School

Tadcaster Grammar School announced it would remain closed on Tuesday, stating that the premises are currently "not safe for students."

Community Response

Sir Alec Shelbrook, MP for Wetherby & Easingwold, expressed deep sorrow over the crash on social media. He said the communitys thoughts are with the affected families.

Scene Description

BBC Look North reporter Olivia Richwald described the scene as heavily cordoned off, covering three roads near the school. She noted two vehicles were involved: a small light-coloured car with visible front-end damage and a larger vehicle, likely the minibus, partially concealed behind a tarpaulin. Police remain at the location.

The road is quiet and not in a residential area, with only occasional cars approaching the closure and turning around. Authorities urge anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant footage to come forward.
