The United States Food and Drug Administration is set to tighten the approval process for vaccines following reports linking COVID-19 shots to the deaths of at least ten children. According to an internal FDA document, these fatalities were associated with inflammation of the heart muscle, although no supporting data has been publicly shared.
The FDAs head of vaccine regulation stated that upcoming guidelines will make it significantly more difficult to approve vaccines for pregnant individuals. Additionally, future clinical trials will be required to demonstrate an actual decrease in disease incidence rather than merely showing biological responses, such as antibody production.
The current US government displays a notable skepticism toward vaccines. Coinciding with this, measlesonce thought to be eradicated in the countryhas resurfaced and is also spreading in other parts of the Americas.
