Charlie Puth lands opportunity to perform National Anthem at Super Bowl

The NFL revealed on November 30 that the pregame show for the 2026 Super Bowl will showcase three major performances of patriotic songs. Brandi Carlile, Charlie Puth, and Coco Jones are set to take the stage. Charlie Puth will deliver The Star-Spangled Banner, Brandi Carlile will perform America the Beautiful, and Coco Jones will sing Lift Every Voice and Sing, often recognized as the Black National Anthem. American Sign Language interpreters Fred Beam and Julian Ortiz will accompany the performances.

This years pregame lineup features a younger group of acclaimed artists representing pop, country, and R&B genres. The trio will be joined by Bad Bunny, who is slated to headline the halftime show. The Grammy-winning Puerto Rican musician comes off a historic year, which included a record-breaking concert residency in Puerto Rico and a widely celebrated album.

Despite his success, Bad Bunnys selection sparked debate, particularly among conservative commentators who expressed concerns over an artist performing primarily in Spanish. The NFL, however, has defended the decision. Commissioner Roger Goodell addressed the matter during a press conference, noting that criticism is expected given the Super Bowls massive global audience. Hes one of the leading and most popular entertainers in the world. Thats what we try to achieve, Goodell stated, emphasizing the significance of the entertainment component of the event.

Bad Bunny previously made his Coachella debut in April 2018, performing alongside Cardi B and J Balvin. His Super Bowl 2026 performance continues a trajectory of high-profile appearances and accolades.

The 2026 Super Bowl is scheduled for Sunday, February 8, at Levis Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
