First fire and ice event in town draws thousands

Approximately 10,000 visitors gathered in Rugby for a unique twist on the traditional Christmas light switch-on. The event, held on Sunday, featured hand-carved ice sculptures throughout the town centre, combined with fire-breathing performances and live music.

The free festival also included live meat-carving demonstrations, a visit from Father Christmas, and a variety of festive craft activities for all ages. Linda Lowne, Business Director at Rugby First, described the town's inaugural fire and ice event as a "tremendous success" and expressed hopes of organizing a similar celebration next Christmas.

Families and visitors enjoyed Christmas carols, mulled wine, and Santa's grotto. According to Ms. Lowne, the idea for the event stemmed from listening to feedback from local businesses and visitors who wanted a fresh and engaging experience spread across the town centre.

Ice sculptures were strategically placed around the town to create a festive trail. Ms. Lowne commented, "Its been a huge success. Everyone I spoke to thoroughly enjoyed it."

The festival also provided a boost to local businesses, with steady foot traffic throughout the day. "People stayed longer, had fun, and explored our shops, which is exactly the goal," she added. She encouraged attendees to share their thoughts, stating the event aims to grow and improve in the future.

Fire-breathing performers delighted audiences on stage, adding excitement to the festive atmosphere.
