CENTCOM announces Syrian regime's successful prevention of Hezbollah weapons smuggling attempts

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that Syrian security forces recently intercepted multiple shipments of weapons destined for Hezbollah. We commend Syrias security personnel for their successful actions in stopping these arms transfers, said CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper. These consignments were bound for Hezbollah.

Adm. Cooper emphasized the shared objective of the United States and regional allies in promoting the disarmament of Lebanese Hezbollah and supporting stability in the Middle East.

Ongoing Tensions Between Israel and Hezbollah

This announcement coincides with U.S. efforts to foster dialogue between Damascus and Jerusalem under the leadership of Ahmed al-Sharaa. Hezbollah had participated in Iran-backed operations against Israel on October 8, 2023, following a Hamas attack. Although a ceasefire remains in effect, both Israel and Hezbollah have continued to accuse each other of breaching the agreement.
