DC pipe bomber accused of believing 2020 election was stolen, FBI sources reveal

In discussions with the FBI, the individual detained in connection with the DC pipe bomb investigation stated that he believed the 2020 presidential election had been rigged. This disclosure may represent the earliest insight into the potential motivation behind the explosive devices placed near both the Democratic and Republican National Committee offices, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

Authorities apprehended 30-year-old Brian Cole on Thursday, charging him with planting pipe bombs close to the DNC and RNC headquarters the night before the January 6, 2021, Capitol events. Sources indicated that Cole spoke extensively with FBI agents and provided multiple statements regarding his actions.

The FBI's deputy director, Dan Bongino, confirmed to media outlets that the bureau conducted lengthy interviews with the suspect, though he did not provide further details. Both the FBI and the Department of Justice have refrained from additional comments on the matter.

Investigators believe Cole collected materials for bomb-making over several months before positioning the devices outside the political offices. He faces charges including interstate transportation of an explosive device and attempted malicious destruction through fire and explosives. Cole is scheduled for a court appearance on Friday afternoon and has not yet entered a plea.

The situation remains under investigation, and updates are expected as new information emerges.
