Democrats narrowly miss flipping deeply conservative House seat in unexpectedly close Tennessee special election

Matt Van Epps, representing the Republican Party, emerged victorious in a Tennessee House special election held on Tuesday. Despite the win, Democrat Aftyn Behn managed to substantially narrow the usual GOP lead in the area, maintaining her trend of strong performances this year.

The contest attracted substantial funding from national political organizations, reflecting Republican concerns about a possible upset. While President Donald Trump had won the district by a 22-point margin in last years election, voter frustrations over rising living costs allowed Behn to reduce that advantage considerably.
