On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump announced that he had granted full pardons to Texas Congressman Henry Cuellar and his wife, Imelda, clearing them of the bribery and conspiracy allegations brought against them by the Department of Justice last year.

In a statement on Truth Social, Trump suggested that Cuellar, a Democrat representing Texas' 28th Congressional District since 2005, had been unfairly targeted due to his strong positions on immigration. Trump criticized the Biden administration, claiming it had used the Justice Department as a tool against political opponents. "The Biden Administration has weaponized federal agencies against those who dissent," he wrote, citing Cuellars opposition to what Trump called the "open borders" policies and the administrations handling of immigration.

Trump accused President Biden and DOJ officials of pursuing legal action not only against Congressman Cuellar but also his wife, Imelda, as a result of their political stance. He stated: "Because of these circumstances, I am announcing a full and unconditional pardon for Congressman Henry Cuellar and his wife. Henry, you can rest easy tonight this chapter is closed."
