The Trump administration plans to release as many of the Epstein investigation documents as legally possible, according to FBI Director Kash Patel. During an interview on Fox News Tuesday evening, Patel suggested that some files connected to the probe of convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein cannot be immediately disclosed.
Host Laura Ingraham asked, Our audience is eager to know why the Epstein files have taken so long to be made public. Was there a misstep? Should the documents have been released sooner?
Patel responded, The FBI has provided Congress with 40,000 pages of documents. By comparison, [Christopher] Wray released 13,000 pages over seven years, and [James] Comey released 3,000. He noted that neither Wray nor Comey were under a legal requirement to make the documents public.
After extensive delays, Congress passed legislation mandating the release of Epstein-related investigation files. President Donald Trump signed the measure on November 19, triggering a 30-day countdown for the disclosure process.
Patel emphasized the administrations commitment to transparency: We are releasing as much as is lawful and not blocked by court orders. The DOJ is actively working with judges to ensure we can disclose everything legally possible. He added, We are moving as quickly as we can, before shifting the conversation.
Last month, the House Oversight Committee published over 20,000 emails obtained from Epsteins estate. The documents contained multiple references to Trump, including a 2011 email in which Epstein expressed appreciation that Trump had not disclosed details of Epsteins activities. Epstein remarked that the dog that hasnt barked is Trump, even as the emails documented Trump spending time with a known victim at one of Epsteins properties.
