President Trump is slated to present revisions to federal fuel standards on Wednesday, targeting regulations established during the Biden administration. The proposed adjustments are expected to relax mileage requirements and ease emissions limits for gasoline-powered cars, according to reports from The Associated Press.
Under former President Biden, policies were introduced that encouraged automakers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including a mandate for vehicles to improve fuel efficiency by 2 percent annually. Earlier this year, the Transportation Department issued an interpretive rule criticizing the previous administration for giving electric vehicles (EVs) an efficiency advantage.
The announcement is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. EST.
