Mike Johnson claims he works over 18 hours a day due to Trump's 21-hour work schedule.

House Speaker Mike Johnson described himself as a wartime speaker, claiming he works more than 18 hours each day to avoid falling behind former President Donald Trumps demanding pace.

During an appearance on Varney & Co on Fox Business, host Stuart Varney asked if Johnson truly works such long hours. Johnson replied, More, more and I have to, because President Trump works 21 hours a day.

Varney noted Johnsons frequent public visibility and his engagement with what he called hostile media. Johnson responded that he approaches his responsibilities with humility, emphasizing the significance of the current moment in American history.

When asked whether he enjoys the role, Johnson acknowledged its difficulty, citing comments he recently shared during a podcast conversation with his wife, Kelly Johnson. He said the position comes with constant challenges and pressure.

Im a wartime speaker in a very real way, Johnson said. Its not always enjoyable, but I believe deeply in what were doing. Im proud of our team. The Republican Party is unified, and without that unity, we wouldnt have achieved what we have this year. Theres still much ahead, and our team is ready for it.

Varney urged Johnson to focus on tax and regulatory cuts, to which the speaker responded, Theres more coming.

Johnson also revealed that the sheer volume of calls and messages he receives each day makes it nearly impossible to keep up. He estimated that about 100,000 people have his cellphone number, adding that he regularly misses hundreds of calls and texts and often worries about what may have been important.

Regarding his personal life, Johnson said that he and his family operate in triage every day as they navigate the demands of his position.
