Trump grants pardon to Texas Democrat Henry Cuellar following bribery charges

On Wednesday, President Trump announced that he was granting a full and unconditional pardon to Texas Congressman Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) and his wife, Imelda, who were indicted last year on charges related to accepting nearly $600,000 in bribes and laundering the funds. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that Cuellar had been unfairly targeted by the Biden administration due to his willingness to criticize its immigration policies.

Sleepy Joe went after the Congressman, and even the Congressmans wonderful wife, Imelda, simply for speaking the TRUTH, Trump wrote. He went on to declare, Because of these facts, and others, I am hereby announcing my full and unconditional PARDON of beloved Texas Congressman Henry Cuellar, and Imelda. Henry, I dont know you, but you can sleep well tonight Your nightmare is finally over!

Trump also shared a letter from Cuellars daughters, Christina and Catherine, who had written to him requesting a pardon for their parents. In their letter, they expressed that their father's independence and honesty might have played a role in the investigation into his actions. With all our hearts, we humbly ask that you show mercy and compassion to our parents either by dismissing this case or granting a full and unconditional pardon, the daughters wrote in a letter dated November 12.

The Cuellars were indicted in March 2024 on 14 charges, which detailed payments Henry Cuellar allegedly received from an oil company linked to the Azerbaijan government and a Mexican bank. In August, a judge dismissed two of the charges at the request of federal prosecutors, and a trial has been scheduled for next year.

Trump has previously pardoned individuals whom he believed were unfairly targeted by the Biden administration, including a recent controversial pardon of Binance founder Changpeng Zhao.
