President Donald Trump held the first Christmas gathering of his second term at the White House, offering a mix of holiday cheer and contemplative remarks. The 79-year-old addressed attendees in a residence newly adorned for the season by First Lady Melania Trump, as shared in videos by his Communications Advisor, Margo Martin, on X.
In one clip, Martin captioned: President @realDonaldTrump stops by the first White House Christmas party! The video shows Trump expressing the honor of serving as president and mentioning that he expects to remain in office for a long period of time.
During an advance tour of the 2025 holiday decorations, a Lego portrait of Trump was displayed in the Green Room. Melania Trumps theme this year emphasized optimism, prompting the president to remark, Were going to do a great job, and you know, we have a little more than three years left. He added, smiling, Three years with Trump is an eternity, thats a long period of time, which drew enthusiastic applause from the audience as he repeated, A long time.
Trump, the oldest U.S. president in history, will be 82 when his current term concludes in January 2029, 12 years older than when he first assumed office in 2017. Questions regarding his physical and cognitive health have persisted throughout his second term. Following weeks of silence about an MRI he underwent, the White House stated that advanced imaging was performed because men in his age group benefit from a thorough evaluation of cardiovascular and abdominal health. Reports noted the scan showed his heart and abdominal systems in excellent health, while recurring bruising on his hand was attributed to handshaking and aspirin use.
Critics have continued to question Trumps mental acuity, citing occasional incoherent speeches and verbal missteps. Observers also noted that during his second term, he has reduced official engagements by 39% and started his days later compared to the same period during his first term.
At the party, Trump also acknowledged National Guard members Sarah Beckstrom, 20, and Andrew Wolfe, 24, who were recently shot near the White House. Beckstrom succumbed to her injuries, while Wolfe remains in critical condition. The president reflected on the tragedy, expressing admiration for the young individuals and emphasizing his belief that National Guard deployments have contributed to restoring safety in Washington, D.C.
