Trump refers to Somalis as 'garbage'

President Donald Trump intensified his criticism of Somalis while his administration imposed a ban on immigration from 19 countries. In response to claims that US aid was partially diverted to benefit the Somalia-linked extremist group Al-Shabaab, Trump referred to Somalis as "garbage."

The administration has been pursuing stricter migration controls, a discussion that resurfaced after two National Guard members were shot in Washington last week, reportedly by an Afghan immigrant. As a result, all immigration applications from Afghanistan, Haiti, Iran, Sudan, and several other nations have been suspended.

Additionally, the Trump administration has sharply reduced the number of refugees allowed into the United States this year and is urging other countries to accept so-called third-country nationals or face potential trade tariffs and visa restrictions.
