Trump to embark on campaign against the affordability 'hoax'

Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Pennsylvania next week to promote his economic policies, according to the White House. The trip comes amid increasing scrutiny over rising living costs, which Trump continues to label a "hoax."

The Republican former president's appearance in this pivotal industrial state signals the beginning of a broader domestic tour, a move prompted by criticism from party members that he has concentrated too heavily on international matters.

"The president will travel to Pennsylvania to highlight how his administration remains committed to tackling what he calls the inflation crisis left by Joe Biden," a White House spokesperson told AFP.

Trump maintains that prices are declining and claims he is correcting problems created under the previous Democratic administration. Speaking from the Oval Office, he dismissed concerns about affordability, stating, "They use the word 'affordability.' It's a Democrat hoax." He also announced adjustments to Biden-era fuel-efficiency regulations, which he asserts will make cars cheaper for Americans.

Despite his claims, Trumps approval ratings have fallen to their lowest levels since he returned to office in January, particularly due to public frustration with the cost of living, which critics partially attribute to his tariff policies.

Affordability has been a major focus for Democrats in recent elections, including the New York City mayoral race and gubernatorial contests in New Jersey and Virginia. Republicans also saw reduced margins in a Tennessee congressional district, a traditional stronghold for Trump.

Pennsylvania remains a critical state in any future presidential context. Trump narrowly captured it in 2016 and 2024, but lost by a small margin to Biden in 2020. Despite speculation, he is ineligible to run again in 2028.
