American Airlines anticipates delays during holiday travel due to grounding of hundreds of planes caused by major software issue.

American Airlines has warned passengers to expect disruptions during the holiday period after a serious software malfunction forced hundreds of its aircraft to remain on the ground.

According to information cited by Reuters, a required software modification affecting a large portion of its Airbus A320 fleet could impact roughly 340 airplanes. The airline stated that most of the necessary updates are expected to be completed either today or tomorrow.

The technical problem comes at an already hectic moment for the aviation industry. An estimated six million travelers are flying within the United States for the Thanksgiving holiday, based on figures from the American Automobile Association.

It remains uncertain whether the issue will be entirely resolved before the upcoming winter holiday travel season begins. However, American Airlines emphasized that it is fully focused on minimizing both delays and cancellations.

Data from FlightAware shows that nearly 2,800 flights operating within, departing from, or arriving in the United States experienced delays on Friday alone.

This incident represents another challenge for American travelers, following widespread delays and cancellations last month that were linked to the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.
