Police are investigating the properties of a California agricultural magnate after his estranged wife was fatally shot in November amid divorce proceedings.
On Tuesday, December 2, detectives from the Navajo County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) in Arizona executed search warrants at Mike Abatti's residence in El Centro, California. Additional properties linked to Abatti are also slated for searches, according to The Los Angeles Times.
In a press release on Wednesday, December 3, the NCSO stated that the searches include the Aurora Drive home, two family-owned trailers, and two vehicles. Authorities emphasized that no suspects have been identified at this stage. "These warrants were obtained and executed based on the results of the ongoing homicide investigation and evidence developed by detectives," the statement read.
Kerri Ann Abatti was shot and killed on November 20 around 9 p.m. in her Pinetop, Arizona home. The NCSO confirmed that the case is being treated as a homicide investigation. Kerri Ann had filed for divorce from Mike in October 2023 after 31 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences, and the couple had been living apart.
The court filings revealed that the couple had shared a lifestyle involving travel, dining, and financial support for their children while maintaining minimal debt. Mike and Kerri Ann married in April 1992 and have co-owned Mike Abatti Farms in El Centro since 1999.
Kerri Ann had been receiving $6,400 monthly in spousal support, but after a review of their properties in California, Arizona, and Wyoming, she intended to seek $30,000 per month.
Mike Abattis family has deep roots in the Imperial Valley, and he has gained millions from environmental lawsuits affecting water rights and local authorities, according to previous reports. Prior to their separation, the couple donated $50,000 to San Diego State University to establish a scholarship in Kerri Ann's name.
