Ex Charged with Killing Woman in Motel in Front of Their 2-Year-Old Son: DA

Authorities in Westchester County, New York, have charged a man with murdering his former girlfriend at a motel while their 2-year-old son was present. The victim, 32-year-old Roseberline Phillippe, was discovered dead in a Days Inn room in early November, officials reported.

Justin Bartley, 32, the father of Phillippe's young son, faces charges of second-degree murder and child endangerment. Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace confirmed the charges on December 5. Bartley pleaded not guilty during his arraignment the same day.

Our hearts go out to Ms. Phillippes family, who have lost a cherished daughter, sister, and friend, Cacace said in a statement. She was a new mother with so much of life still ahead to share with her child.

Bartley was reportedly on probation at the time of the killing. In 2022, he had admitted guilt to second-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon and driving while intoxicated in Rockland County, receiving a five-year probation sentence for those offenses.

Philippes family is mourning her death. A GoFundMe page set up to support her funeral expenses and care for her toddler describes her as a devoted mother, a loving daughter, and a remarkable friend whose life was full of kindness and strength. The organizer added, Her son now must grow up without her love and guidance. Roses light will not fade, and we will ensure her child knows the love and courage she carried.

Bartley remains in Westchester County Jail without bail, awaiting his next court date on March 6, 2026. Temporary protection orders have been issued in favor of Phillippes family. It is currently unclear if Bartley has legal representation able to comment publicly on his case.
