Woman who broadcasted live her sister's death in DUI car crash is shot dead after being released

Obdulia Sanchez, a California woman who had served prison time for a 2017 DUI incident that killed her sister, was fatally shot in a drive-by attack in Stockton, Calif., on Tuesday, Dec. 2. Authorities confirmed the shooting, which also left another person injured.

Sanchez had been sentenced to six years in prison for gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI, and child endangerment after the crash that claimed the life of her 14-year-old sister, Jacqueline. At the time of the accident, Sanchez, then 18, was intoxicated and broadcasting her drive on Instagram. The livestream continued even after both sisters were ejected from the vehicle, capturing the tragic aftermath.

In sentencing hearings, Sanchez expressed deep remorse, saying, "Why did God choose me to be the older sister? I cant even do my job right. I had so much potential, but I threw it all away because I wanted to look cool and drive carelessly."

Neither Sanchez nor her sister was wearing a seatbelt when the vehicle struck a fence. Sanchez was released on parole in 2019 but faced re-arrest later that same year.

The circumstances surrounding Sanchezs death are under investigation, and no arrests have been made. The tragic incident comes shortly after a separate mass shooting in Stockton that killed four people, including three children.
