A woman has opened up on Reddit about the ongoing challenges of living with her husband, whose carelessness around the house has caused repeated accidents and property damage. The husbands habits, ranging from ruining laundry to leaving candles unattended, have caused significant frustration and financial strain.
I (29F) feel like Im losing my mind over my husband (37M) and his disregard for our belongings, especially mine and our sons (1M), she wrote.
The problems began with laundry mishaps. He frequently washed her clothes at the wrong temperature or mixed colors, resulting in ruined garments. In one instance, he destroyed her white Nike pullover by washing it with black clothing. After multiple incidents, they agreed she would handle her and their son's laundry while he would take care of his own, but mistakes continued.
He even shrank our sons wool onesie to the size of doll clothes, she explained. Whenever he ruins something of mine, he just says I 'have too many clothes anyway.' The only reason I have more is because I take care of my stuff.
Beyond laundry, his negligence extended to other areas of the home. One evening, she returned to find expensive candles burning unattended for hours. Her husband had cooked steak and lit candles to mask the smell, then fell asleep upstairs while their son was in bed. The kitchen hood remained dirty, as he refused to clean it after cooking.
When confronted, he dismissed her concerns, accusing her of constantly criticizing him. She argued that if he truly wanted to help, he could try not creating extra work or breaking things. He said he cant even have a decent meal without me criticizing him. Meanwhile, Im the one who cleans, replaces ruined clothes, and fixes the damage, which is costing me a lot of money, she shared.
The conflict escalated, leaving her feeling undervalued and overwhelmed, as he labeled her disrespectful and insisted she was the problem. Reddit users responded with questions about whether he ever damages his own belongings, replaces expensive items, or appreciates her efforts in the household.
Many commenters highlighted the imbalance in responsibility, pointing out that the burden of maintaining the home and replacing damaged items falls largely on her, leaving her feeling unappreciated and financially strained.
