The last supermoon of 2025 illuminates the evening sky. Check out the pictures.

On Thursday, December 4, the last full moon of 2025 dazzled observers around the globe. The December full moon reached its highest point at approximately 6:14 p.m. ET.

This month's full moon was classified as a supermoon, appearing up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than a standard full moon, according to NASA. Supermoons occur when a full or new moon coincides with the moon's closest approach to Earth, a point known as "perigee."

Although the peak occurred on December 4, the moon remained strikingly bright on December 5 and continued to appear full for several days afterward.

Decembers full moon carries the name "Cold Moon," derived from the Mohawk tribe, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac. It is also referred to as the Winter Maker Moon, the Little Spirit Moon, and the Long Night Moon.
