Amazon is advancing its commitment to deploy 100,000 electric delivery vehicles by 2030 with the introduction of 50 new EVs in the Greater Vancouver region of Canada, according to Canadian Occupational Safety. This marks the first use of electric delivery vans by Amazon in the country.

The vehicles, custom-built by Rivian, combine environmentally friendly electric performance with enhanced safety and comfort features, aiming to provide an optimal experience for delivery drivers. "This is our first major step toward decarbonizing our local delivery fleet," said Eva Lorenz, vice president and country manager for Amazon Canada. "Investing in environmentally responsible solutions benefits not only the planet but also our customers, employees, and partners."

Transitioning to electric vehicles is increasingly practical for large businesses. EVs are less expensive to operate than gasoline vehicles, generate minimal air pollution, and contribute positively to a companys public image. Eco-conscious consumers are more likely to support brands that prioritize sustainability.

In addition, these electric vans are quieter, reducing noise pollution, and their zero tailpipe emissions promote healthier conditions for drivers and local communities. The growing presence of EVs worldwide also supports the expansion of charging infrastructure, making recharging more accessible.

Currently, Amazon operates 35,000 electric delivery vehicles globally, completing last-mile deliveries for over 1.5 billion packages annually, significantly impacting the neighborhoods they serve. "This initiative aligns with Amazons larger goal of creating a transportation network that serves our customers, communities, and the environment," stated Jasmin Begagic, director of Amazon Logistics Canada.
