Four additional Poundland stores set to shut down

Four more Poundland locations across Bristol and Somerset are set to close as the budget retailer faces ongoing financial difficulties. Earlier this year, in June, the chain was acquired by investment firm Gordon Brothers for 1. The company announced plans to close around 100 outlets to prevent Poundland from entering administration.

The business stated it would seek to renegotiate rent agreements and close stores where reduced rent could not be secured. The stores in Portishead and Weston-super-Mare are scheduled to close on Christmas Eve, while the Yeovil Middle Street and Bristol Avonmeads shops will shut on 16 and 29 January, respectively.

A Poundland representative noted that the Avonmeads location was not initially slated for closure, but negotiations to keep it open were unsuccessful. Darren MacDonald, Poundland's UK country manager, acknowledged that the closure news would be disappointing for regular shoppers.

Despite these closures, three Poundland stores will continue operating in Bristol, alongside outlets in Nailsea and Yeovil's Houndstone Retail Park. Earlier this year, stores in Wells and Taunton closed during August and September.
