McLaren Bay Region implements MEDI+SIGN digital whiteboards in emergency department

McLaren Bay Region, a 409-bed acute care facility in Bay City, Michigan, has equipped its emergency department (ED) with MEDI+SIGN digital whiteboards and door displays in every treatment room to enhance patient experience and staff safety. The hospital offers comprehensive services including orthopaedics, neuroscience, cardiovascular care, oncology, home health, rehabilitation, and emergency medical services, serving almost 500,000 residents in the Great Lakes Bay Region. Its emergency department sees over 24,000 patients annually.

The ED consists of 34 treatment rooms, including two specialized behavioural health rooms. Each room, including secure holding areas, now features MEDI+SIGN digital whiteboards designed for safety, with recessed and ligature-free construction. These boards automatically pull and display critical patient information from the hospitals Cerner FirstNet electronic health record (EHR), providing real-time updates to both patients and their families.

In addition, MEDI+SIGN has installed ADA-compliant digital door displays outside all treatment rooms. These screens offer staff an immediate overview of the patients care plan and alert them to any potential risks before entering the room.

David Linetsky, founder and CEO of MEDI+SIGN, commented: Ensuring staff safety and reducing workplace violence in hospitals, especially in emergency departments, is crucial. Door displays give all team members a quick glance at patient information, helping them identify potential concerns ahead of entering the room.

Lona Underwood, ED and patient care services director at McLaren Bay Region, stated: Our mission is to deliver healthcare as we would want for our own families. Patients in the emergency department are often anxious and seeking clarity, so keeping them informed throughout their visit helps streamline care. Installing MEDI+SIGN digital whiteboards was an obvious choice, as they allow patients and families to see their care team, pending tests, expected turnaround times, and receive alerts when staff are responding, reducing unnecessary delays.
