The first glimpse of The Testaments, the sequel to The Handmaid's Tale, is finally available. The newly released images, tinged in purple, offer a sneak peek at the series set 15 years after the original story.

The photos introduce viewers to Agnes, portrayed by Chase Infiniti, and Daisy, played by Lucy Halliday. Fans of The Handmaid's Tale will recognize them as Junes daughters, now grown and under new identities.

One striking image shows Aunt Lydia, reprised by Ann Dowd, standing before an unsettling statue of herself, surrounded by flowers and offerings. Another image captures a circle of young girls performing a choreographed ritual, hinting at the series eerie, cult-like atmosphere.

The visuals also feature performances by Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, and Birva Pandya, showcasing the new generation navigating life in Gilead.

Based on Margaret Atwoods Booker Prize-winning novel published in 2019, The Testaments explores the dystopian world of Gilead. The official synopsis explains:

"Years after the events of The Handmaids Tale, The Testaments follows a coming-of-age story of young women in Gilead. Growing up with no memories of life outside the oppressive regime, they must navigate forced marriages and servitude while seeking allies to fight for freedom and the life they deserve."

Showrunner Bruce Miller described the series focus on younger women, highlighting the tension of wielding perceived power only to have it stripped away. He explained that it explores the vibrant energy of youth confronted by a system designed to subvert it.

While June is no longer the central viewpoint, Elisabeth Moss confirmed that her characters journey is not yet complete, leaving room for her possible return in the future.

The Testaments was developed for television by Bruce Miller, who also serves as executive producer alongside Warren Littlefield, Elisabeth Moss, Steve Stark, Shana Stein, Maya Goldsmith, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, and Mike Barker, with Barker directing the first three episodes. MGM Television is producing the series.

Additional cast members include Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, and Kira Guloien.

The series is scheduled to premiere in April 2026 on Hulu and Hulu via Disney+ bundles in the U.S., and on Disney+ internationally.
