First Look at 'The Testaments': Chase for Freedom Continues as New Generation of Gilead Women Rise

Hulu has released an exclusive preview of The Testaments, the highly anticipated follow-up to The Handmaids Tale. Scheduled to debut in April 2026, this series adapts Margaret Atwoods 2019 novel and continues the story within the oppressive theocracy of Gilead, set years after the original events.

The official synopsis describes The Testaments as a coming-of-age tale focusing on a new generation of women navigating the harsh realities of Gilead. Raised entirely within its confines, these young women have no experience of life outside its strictures. Confronted with arranged marriages and lives of enforced servitude, they must seek out alliesboth familiar and newto challenge the system and pursue the freedom they deserve.

The cast features Ann Dowd, Chase Infiniti, Lucy Halliday, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, and Birva Pandya. Bruce Miller serves as creator and showrunner, also acting as an executive producer alongside Warren Littlefield, Elisabeth Moss, Steve Stark, Shana Stein, Maya Goldsmith, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, and Mike Barker, who will direct the first three episodes. MGM Television is producing the series.

For context, The Handmaids Tale, based on Atwoods 1985 novel, ran for six seasons on Hulu, premiering in 2017 and concluding earlier this year. The first look photos for The Testaments were unveiled at the CCXP film festival in So Paulo, Brazil, showcasing the new world and characters of Gilead.
