Halle Berry Speaks Out on Menopause Pressure to 'Stay Forever 35' in Fiery Speech

Halle Berry has once again made headlines by taking a strong stance on womens health issues. The actress recently delivered a passionate speech supporting a menopause-related bill, while openly criticizing a prominent political figure for blocking its passage.

Berry Challenges Governor Gavin Newsom

At The New York Times Dealbook Summit, Berry highlighted the struggles faced by women during menopause and directly called out California Governor Gavin Newsom for vetoing legislation that could have advanced research and support for womens health. Berry, 59, emphasized her hope that more leaders would eventually recognize the importance of such measures. She also suggested that Newsoms repeated vetoes reflect a broader undervaluing of women, noting he should not be considered for the presidency in the future.

She stated: In California, Governor Gavin Newsom has blocked our menopause bill two years in a row. But thats temporary. He wont be governor forever, and overlooking women as he has shows he probably shouldnt aim for higher office either.

The Pressure on Women as They Age

Berry spoke candidly about the societal pressures women face as they grow older, noting that women beyond a certain age are often devalued. She pointed out that women in Hollywood, the workplace, and on social media are pressured to maintain a youthful appearance, with many feeling compelled to look forever 35.

She explained that compliments are often given to women who appear to defy aging, which intensifies the pressure to hide their true age.

Personal Experiences Shaping Her Advocacy

The actress shared personal stories from her childhood in Cleveland, Ohio, recounting how she was bullied and physically attacked. Berry described learning to stand up for herself and refusing to be a victim, lessons that have informed her ongoing advocacy for womens rights and health.

From sixth grade onward, I refused to be misused or mistreated. That resolve has fueled my dedication to speak out and support women, she said.

Commitment to Womens Health

Berry has long been open about her menopause journey, using her platform to encourage open discussions about womens health. She founded Respin, a wellness brand focused on womens fitness, health, and overall well-being. The brand aims to create a supportive community where women can share their experiences and empower each other, particularly regarding menopause.

Championing Black Women in Film

Beyond health advocacy, Berry has emphasized the importance of Black women achieving recognition in the film industry. She shared her desire to see another Black woman win the Academy Award for Best Actress, reflecting her commitment to representation and equal opportunity in Hollywood.

On Love and Personal Life

While Berry has spoken publicly about her ambitions and advocacy, she remains private about her personal life. Her partner, Van Hunt, recently proposed, but Berry has not rushed into marriage, valuing their strong bond and shared history while taking time to make the decision.
