Iceland to make Eurovision decision next week following Israel's announcement

Icelands public broadcaster, RV, has announced that a final decision on whether the country will take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 will be made next Wednesday. This follows confirmation that Israel will be eligible to compete in the contest held in Vienna.

Previously, RVs board had advised the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to prevent Israel from participating in next years event. However, after a rule adjustment approved by the EBU member broadcasters, all interested nations are permitted to join the competition, clearing the way for Israels involvement.

Israels role in the Gaza conflict had prompted calls from some broadcasters for its exclusion from Eurovision. In response to the EBUs ruling, broadcasters from Spain, Ireland, Slovenia, and the Netherlands have already announced plans to boycott the event.
