KATSEYE's Lara Raj addresses criticism for complimenting Will Byers' appearance

KATSEYE member Lara Raj recently expressed her admiration for the hit Netflix series Stranger Things, drawing attention online. Earlier this week, the singer, who publicly came out as queer, described the show as a "cinematic masterpiece" and remarked on Noah Schnapp's portrayal of Will Byers, saying he "looks hot" during a live TikTok session.

The comment quickly sparked controversy on social media, as some users criticized Raj for complimenting Schnapp, an actor involved in recent debates. In the livestream, she stated, "Will looks so hot in that last scene Im like, period! Youre giving."

After fans pointed out Schnapp's recent contentious actions, Raj clarified her position: "Oh hell nah guys, I am just a fan of the show! I was not aware of any of the actors' backgrounds or stances. I was not sharing support for anything but the show, do not get it twisted! Thank you."

Schnapp, who portrays Will Byers and identifies as gay, faced criticism following his social media support for Israel shortly after the October 7 attacks in Gaza, including a photo with a group holding "Zionism is sexy" stickers. In response to the backlash, he posted on Instagram: "As a Jewish American, I am afraid. Afraid for my brothers and sisters in Israel, who have been senselessly attacked by Hamas. I am truly heartbroken to see the brutal murders of innocent children, women, and soldiers fighting to defend themselves."

Stranger Things recently premiered its fifth and final season after a three-year hiatus, releasing the first of two volumes in November, with the series finale scheduled for December 31. In this concluding season, Wills storyline explores queer self-acceptance, which Out critic Mey Rude praised for demonstrating that "being gay is a superpower."
