Jenny Han announces completion of 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' film script

At the Paris premiere of the third season of The Summer I Turned Pretty, actors Lola Tung and Christopher Briney announced plans for a feature film that will continue the beloved romance series.

Author and showrunner Jenny Han confirmed during The Wrap's 2025 Power Women Summit that she has just finished writing the screenplay for the movie. "I just wrote it," Han said. "We have not filmed anything yet."

Fans speculated that the film might arrive before the end of 2025, but Han clarified that this is not the case. "I know that everyone was hoping that it was coming out this Christmas, but unfortunately, not happening, not possible," she explained. She also pointed out that post-production on season three wrapped only a month before its release on Prime Video, leaving no time for filming the movie. "The show came out in July. So it was really up to the last minute on the show, so that we wouldnt have had time to film the whole movie," Han added.

Han will direct the upcoming film, which she co-wrote with Sarah Kucserka. While details of the story remain secret, Han teased that it will explore another major milestone in the protagonist Bellys journey. "There is another big milestone left in Bellys journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due," she said. "Im so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans."
