Temporary 30mph speed limit removed from link road

The temporary 30mph (48.2 km/h) speed restriction on a recently opened link road has been lifted. Cornwall Council confirmed that the limit was initially applied while construction and engineering tasks continued along the 3.9-mile (6.3 km) single carriageway.

The road connects the A391 at Singlerose Roundabout in Carluddon with the A30 at Victoria, providing an alternative route that diverts traffic away from villages including Roche and Bugle.

Steve Trevelyan, councillor representing Roche and Bugle, expressed that the road would significantly improve local traffic flow. However, he noted that the extended duration of the works had been a source of frustration for residents and drivers.

In October, Trevelyan mentioned that motorists were avoiding the new route due to the temporary speed restriction and ongoing construction, making the older village routes faster despite congestion.

He described the road as "excellent" and long overdue, but criticized the slow pace of completing the project and lifting the speed limit. Trevelyan compared the situation to having home renovations left incomplete for an extended period.

The councillor also suggested that future projects should include stricter timelines and potential penalties to prevent delays. "Contracts should have clear time constraints and possibly fines, rather than relying on limited staff to finish work at an indefinite pace," he said.

Council officials have been contacted for further comment regarding the completion and removal of the speed restriction.
