Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau Begin Relationship During Japan Trip

On December 6, Perry, 41, posted several photos and videos from her visit. One highlighted a cheerful selfie with Trudeau, 53, set against a backdrop of autumnal trees. Another clip showed the couple enjoying a dinner together, with Perry sampling local cuisine. Her caption read: Tokyo times on tour and more.

During their visit, the pair also met with Japans former Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife Yuko Kishida, posing for a photo in front of a Christmas tree. Trudeau later shared on X (formerly Twitter): Katy and I were so glad to have the chance to sit down with you and Yuko. Thank you, Fumio, for your friendship and your continued commitment to both the international rules-based order and to a better future for everyone.

The romance began following Perrys split from Orlando Bloom earlier this year and Trudeaus separation from his wife Sophie Grgoire Trudeau in 2023. Their relationship rumors first sparked in July after a dinner in Montreal, and they have since been seen together publicly, including a Paris cabaret outing for Perrys birthday in October. Perry also subtly featured Trudeau in an Instagram post, where he was seen clapping during her birthday celebration backstage.

Social media has become a common platform for celebrities to officially announce their relationships. Other notable recent hard launches include:

  • Zara McDermott & Louis Tomlinson shared a romantic selfie in August 2025.
  • Luke Newton confirmed his romance with Antonia Roumelioti in May 2025.
  • Gigi Hadid went public with Bradley Cooper in May 2025.
  • Ice Spice and Sauce Gardner revealed their relationship in April 2025.
  • Lucas Bravo and Shailene Woodley shared desert vacation photos in April 2025 after confirming their romance.

Other celebrities, such as Channing Tatum, Madelaine Petsch, Nicola Coughlan, and Charlie Puth, have similarly made their relationships official through Instagram posts, highlighting the growing trend of sharing personal milestones with fans online.
