Paul Dano receives support from 'The Batman' sequel writer and 'There Will Be Blood' star following Quentin Tarantino's harsh criticism

Paul Dano has been defended by several industry figures following harsh comments from Quentin Tarantino. The famed director recently appeared on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast to share his top 20 films of the 21st century, including There Will Be Blood. However, Tarantino singled out Danos performance for criticism.

Its meant to be a two-person story, but its glaringly obvious that its not. [Dano] is weak sauce, man. Hes the weak sister, Tarantino said, referring to Danos role alongside Daniel Day-Lewis. He also described Dano as the weakest actor in SAG, comments that quickly circulated online.

In response, Mattson Tomlin, co-writer of The Batman Part II with Matt Reeves, praised Dano on X/Twitter. I am really pleased to see so many people cheer on Paul Dano this week. Not only is he a terrific actor, but he's an astonishing director who exudes control and tremendous empathy, Tomlin wrote.

Dano is familiar to DC fans as Edward Nashton, also known as The Riddler, in Reeves 2022 The Batman. The characters storyline left room for a return, though no official confirmation has been made. Meanwhile, Scarlett Johansson is reportedly in talks for a new role opposite Robert Pattinson in the sequel.

Other defenders included Dillon Freasier, who played young H.W. Plainview in There Will Be Blood. He told TMZ, The film is perfect. Its a work of art. And its that way because everyone was perfectly cast, dismissing Tarantinos suggestion that another actor would have been better. Simu Liu also shared support on X/Twitter, saying, idk man i think Paul Dano is an incredible actor.

Film journalist Jamie Graham summed up the sentiment of many, tweeting: Alternative take: Paul Dano is brilliant in the film, and being weak and weaselly is the whole point.
