Singapore Introduces $154 Million Initiative to Enhance Film and TV Talent

Singapores Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has unveiled a three-year, SGD200 million ($154 million) program aimed at cultivating local film and television talent while positioning the city-state as a regional hub for co-productions. Named the Talent Accelerator Program (TAP), it was announced during the Asia TV Forum and Market and offers structured support for media professionals from project inception to international distribution.

Tan Kiat How, Singapores Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information and Ministry of Health, emphasized that the government is responding to a rapidly changing media environment, where artificial intelligence is reshaping content creation and audiences now have more viewing choices than ever. This $200 million Talent Accelerator Program represents a significant commitment to ensure Singaporean content achieves global recognition, said Tan. Our goal is to develop compelling stories with international appeal, reinforce Singapore as a co-production center, and establish the country as a reliable creative partner across the region.

The program addresses three key stages of the media value chain:

  • Development: IMDA will link local creators with commissioners and buyers, providing mentorship in story development, pitching, and negotiation. Participants will also gain access to international streaming platforms and production companies.
  • Production: IMDA will co-finance regional and global co-productions, spanning films, scripted and unscripted television, and intellectual property adaptations.
  • Distribution: A dedicated marketing team will promote Singaporean content and talent globally, supplemented by additional marketing funds for selected projects.

Yvonne Tang, IMDAs Assistant Chief Executive for the Media Industry Group, stated that the program aims to create a thriving ecosystem where Singapore is seen as a strategic creative collaborator rather than merely a production location. TAP marks a new chapter in supporting our film and television talent through world-class mentorships, masterclasses, strategic global partnerships, and fresh co-production opportunities, Tang explained.

The initiative follows recent collaborations, including an unscripted content partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery. Details regarding applications for the program are expected to be announced in the first quarter of 2026.
