'Sinners' and 'Adolescence' are the top nominees for Critics Choice award

The Critics Choice Association revealed the contenders for the 31st Annual Critics Choice Awards, set to be presented on January 4 at 7 p.m. EST on E and USA Network with Chelsea Handler as host.

Sinners led the film categories with 17 nominations, including Best Picture, acting nods for Michael B. Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku and Miles Caton, and recognition for writer and director Ryan Coogler. The film also received nominations in casting and ensemble, cinematography, production design, editing, costume design, hair and makeup, visual effects, stunt coordination, original song, score and sound.

In television, Adolescence earned six nominations and dominated the limited series category. The production is recognized for Best Limited Series along with performances by Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper, Ashley Waters, Erin Doherty and Christine Tremarco. Graham, Cooper and Doherty are previous Emmy recipients for their work.

Additional Best Picture nominees include Bugonia, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Jay Kelly, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, Sentimental Value, Train Dreams and Wicked: For Good.

Marty Supreme collected further recognition for Timothee Chalamet, director Josh Safdie, writers and editors Safdie and Ronald Bronstein, along with nominations in production design and score.

One Battle After Another secured 14 nominations, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Chase Infiniti, Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn, Teyana Taylor and filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson. The film also received recognition for cinematography, stunt coordination, score and sound.

Train Dreams was acknowledged with nominations for Joel Edgerton, writers Clint Bentley and Greg Kwedar, cinematography and original song.

Acting nominations in film also went to Emma Stone, Jacob Elordi, Rose Byrne, Renata Reinsve, Ethan Hawke, Amanda Seyfried, Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal, Adam Sandler, Stellan Skarsgrd, Elle Fanning, Ariana Grande, Inga Ibsdotter Lileaas, Amy Madigan, Everett Blunck, Cary Christopher, Shannon Mahina Gorman, Jacobi Jupe and Nina Ye.

Wagner Moura received recognition for roles in both The Secret Agent and Dope Thief. Jacob Elordi was also nominated for his portrayal in Frankenstein.

The television Best Drama Series lineup features Alien: Earth, Andor, The Diplomat, Paradise, The Pitt, Pluribus, Severance and Task.

The Best Comedy Series nominees are Abbott Elementary, Elsbeth, Ghosts, Hacks, Nobody Wants This, Only Murders in the Building, The Righteous Gemstones and The Studio. Chris Perfetti and Janelle James also earned comedy supporting nominations for Abbott Elementary.

Additional television acting nominees include Diego Luna for Andor and Michelle Williams for Dying For Sex. Carrie Preston was recognized for her role in Elsbeth. Ghosts performers Rose McIver, Asher Grodman and Rebecca Wisocky also received nominations.

Jean Smart, Paul W. Downs and Hannah Einbinder were acknowledged for their work in Hacks. Nobody Wants This stars Adam Brody, Kristen Bell, Timothy Simons and Justine Lupe also received acting nominations.

Sterling K. Brown was nominated for his performance in Paradise, while Rhea Seehorn earned a nod for Pluribus. Adam Scott, Britt Lower and Tramell Tillman were recognized for Severance. Mark Ruffalo and Tom Pelphrey received nominations for Task. Keri Russell, Ato Essandoh and Allison Janney were honored for The Diplomat.

From The Pitt, Noah Wyle, Patrick Bell and Katherine LaNasa earned nominations. Danny McBride and Edi Patterson were acknowledged for The Righteous Gemstones, while Seth Rogen and Ike Barinholtz were recognized for The Studio.
