The actress from Charlie's Angels, turning 57 on December 2, 2025, became a mother to her first and only child, Rockwell, via surrogacy on August 27, 2015. Reflecting on her choice in 2016, she told PEOPLE that surrogacy felt like the right path while balancing her busy career.

As Rockwell grows, hes starting to recognize his mothers fame. During the promotion of her holiday film Red One, she recalled his heartwarming reaction to seeing her on screen: He forgot I was in the movie, then saw me, hugged my arm, and said he was so proud of me, she shared on Live with Kelly and Mark. I nearly cried.

Over the years, Liu has shared glimpses of Rockwells upbringing in New York City. She even brought him along when she received her Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 2019. On her 57th birthday, fans are treated to rare photos of the SAG Award-winning actress with her son.

Announcing Rockwells arrival on Instagram, she wrote, Introducing the new little man in my life, my son Rockwell Lloyd Liu. As a painter herself, Liu nurtured Rockwells interest in art from an early age, taking him to the Whitney Museum of American Art. A tender snapshot from his toddler years shows them sharing a bowl of fruit, with his unique name inspired by a store she encountered while filming.

Their family of three includes Lius chocolate Labrador, Apple. Shes really gentle and protective, Liu shared with PEOPLE in 2016. She sits between him and anyone who comes close, making sure hes safe. Their bond is beautiful to watch.

Time fliesLiu shared a cheerful selfie with Rockwell during his first experience losing baby teeth. At her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, Rockwell proudly supported his mother as she became the second Chinese American woman to receive the honor. Liu also dressed him in festive Chinese New Year attire to celebrate the Year of the Ox.

In May 2024, Liu brought 8-year-old Rockwell to a special White House event for AANHPI Heritage Month, where he witnessed his mother introduce then-President Joe Biden, marking an unforgettable moment in his young life.
