Julia Roberts stepped into a new chapter of her life the moment she became a mother. The Oscar-winning actress shared with the Wall Street Journal in 2014 that she slowed down her acting career after welcoming twins Phinnaeus and Hazel with her husband Danny Moder in 2004. "By the time we had kids, I had accomplished things and felt secure about that part of my life," she explained. "I was genuinely happy entering the family phase. For a long period, my children barely knew I had a job because I was home so often."
The couple expanded their family with the birth of son Henry in 2007. Though Roberts has mentioned with a hint of nostalgia that their Malibu home feels emptier since Henry left for college, she continues to treasure her role as a mother. On the Late Show With Stephen Colbert in October, she said, "I know everyone thinks their kids are great, but... I think my kids are great. I love spending time with them."
Roberts life took a pivotal turn when she met Danny Moder, her future husband, on the set of her 2001 film The Mexican. They married on July 4, 2002. "When I think about what makes my life meaningful, its him," she told Harper's Bazaar UK in 2017. "Everything for me has stemmed from that relationship."
The actress has built a close bond with her children, who eventually realized their mothers global fame. Recalling the moment, she told Oprah Winfrey in 2018, "It was like, 'Youre famous?' And I said, 'I think a lot of people might have seen my movies or know who I am.' Then after a while, they asked, 'Are you more famous than Taylor Swift?'"
Roberts credits her successful career with giving her the freedom to be present during her childrens formative years. Speaking to the New York Times Magazine in 2022, she noted, "Much of my kids early life, they barely noticed my work because I was home most of the time. As they grow older, especially with my daughter, I feel a responsibility to show them that creativity is meaningful."
Reflecting on her family life in 2022 on CBS Sunday Morning, Roberts emphasized, "The life my husband and I have built together with our children is the best part. Coming home at the end of the day to them is a triumph."
