Justin Lin set to direct film adaptation of Sony's 'Helldivers' video game

Justin Lin, renowned for his work on the Fast & Furious series, has been tapped to direct the cinematic adaptation of Helldivers, a celebrated video game franchise by Arrowhead Game Studios. The film is being developed through a collaboration between PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures.

The original Helldivers game launched in 2015 to critical acclaim. Its sequel, Helldivers 2, released in 2024, achieved remarkable success, selling over 12 million copies on PS5 and PC within the first four months. The game has recently expanded to Xbox platforms and continues to perform strongly.

Helldivers 2 emphasizes cooperative gameplay, humor, and intense action, centering on an elite squad of soldiers known as Helldivers, who are tasked with defending the fictional planet of Super Earth against alien threats.

The film will be produced by Hutch Parker, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Lin himself through his production company, Perfect Storm Entertainment. Lin is widely recognized for transforming the Fast & Furious franchise into a global blockbuster sensation. His directing credits include The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, and F9: The Fast Saga, collectively earning $2.66 billion worldwide. Lin also directed the acclaimed Star Trek Beyond and his latest project, Last Days, premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

Chris Dauberman, known for scripting major horror hits such as It, Annabelle, and The Nun, is also involved in the project and holds a first-look producing deal with Sony.
