Scarlett Johansson has opened up about the unusual start to her relationship with Colin Jost, revealing that their initial date in 2017 ended much sooner than anticipated. The actress admitted she felt nervous and out of her comfort zone, leaving Colin unsure about the future of their connection.
A Memorable First Date
In a recent appearance on Today with Jenna & Friends, Johansson described how intimidating that first encounter was. She mentioned that she had seldom experienced the traditional dating approach, referring to herself as a serial monogamist who was not accustomed to casual dating.
Colin took her to a charming Italian restaurant in New Yorks East Village, and the evening began smoothly. However, when the plans shifted to post-dinner drinks, Johansson felt anxious. She recalled thinking, I have to go now. I need to leave, cutting the date short and leaving Colin somewhat confused.
Even her babysitter was surprised when Scarlett returned home early. I got home to relieve my babysitter, and it was like 9:36. She asked, Why are you home?! I explained, I went on this date, and I just felt so flustered, Johansson recounted with a laugh.
Colins Perspective
Colin Jost admitted he initially believed the date had gone poorly. I totally thought that was it. You were acting so weird, he confessed. Despite the rocky start, the couples connection endured, and they began dating.
From Meeting to Marriage
Johansson and Jost first crossed paths in 2006 when she hosted SNL, but romantic sparks didnt ignite until 2017. By then, Scarlett had recently finalized her divorce from journalist Romain Dauriac, with whom she shares a daughter, Rose, now 11. Previously, she had been married to Ryan Reynolds from 2008 to 2011.
Today, Johansson and Jost are happily married and share a 4-year-old son, Cosmo. The couple tied the knot in 2020, and Jost even made a public display of affection by surprising Johansson with roses and a kiss during her SNL hosting gig last May.
