Zootopia 2 Dominates The Five-Day Thanksgiving Weekend Box Office Report

Hollywood enjoyed a strong Thanksgiving weekend as Zootopia debuted with an impressive $156 million over the five-day holiday period. Wicked: For Good continued its successful run, earning $93 million, while several older films also saw respectable numbers. Its a classic case of a booming market benefiting multiple releases simultaneously.

Zootopia Soars

The sequel Zootopia achieved $156 million in just five days. By comparison, the 2016 original reached $154 million after 12 days, though it opened outside a major holiday period. With this momentum, Zootopia 2 is on track to surpass the $341 million total of its predecessor.

Wicked: For Good Continues Strong

In its second weekend, Wicked: For Good added significantly to its box office total, reaching $270 million in its first ten days. This is $7 million ahead of the original Wicked during the same period, though the original may regain pace in the coming week. Regardless, the sequel remains a major success.

Other Box Office Performers

Now You See Me: Now You Dont took third place, earning $10 million over the five-day span and reaching $49 million after three weekends, slightly behind the $65 million total of Now You See Me 2.

Predator: Badlands earned $6.25 million over the long weekend, bringing its cumulative total to $85 million. Despite a steep drop in its second weekend, the film appears to have stabilized, making it a solid financial entry in the franchise.

Notable New Releases

Eternity, starring Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller, and Callum Turner, opened with $5.2 million from 1,300 theaters. The Thanksgiving release may not have been ideal for this romantic comedy, which could perform better during Christmas or Valentines Day.

Hamnet debuted in eighth place with $1.35 million from just 119 theaters. While modest, it marks a promising start, with potential to grow depending on audience interest.

Looking Ahead

Next week promises more excitement with the release of Five Nights at Freddy's, following the 2023 originals $80 million debut, as well as the directors cut of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair and the film adaptation of Merrily We Roll Along featuring Jonathan Groff. Additionally, the anime release Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution could emerge as an unexpected hit.
