‘Insulting and disrespectful: Trump's attacks on female reporters over the course of one month’

Over the past month, former President Donald Trump has repeatedly attacked journalists, often using harsh and demeaning language. Among his remarks, he has called reporters stupid, incapable, and even referred to one as piggy. Despite the increase in such attacks on female journalists, the White House has maintained that these comments are not gender-related.

President Trump has never been politically correct and doesnt hold back, which is part of why many Americans supported his transparency, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told The Independent. These attacks are about the declining trust in the media, not gender.

Trumps niece, Mary Trump, disagreed with this stance, stating on her show Mary Trump Live that the rise in misogynistic attacks shows he is becoming more comfortable issuing them. She added that his behavior may also indicate he is feeling a little rattled.

Key Incidents

November 14: Bloomberg Correspondent

On November 14, Trump called Bloombergs White House correspondent Catherine Lucey a quiet piggy on Air Force One while she tried to ask him about the Epstein Files. He cut her off before she could finish her question, pointing at her directly. The White House defended Trump by claiming Lucey had acted inappropriately and unprofessionally.

Thanksgiving Day: CBS News Nancy Cordes

During questions about the D.C. National Guard shootings, Trump criticized CBS News Nancy Cordes after she challenged his claim that Afghan refugees were not properly vetted. He called her a stupid person, asserting she asked questions simply because of her perceived lack of intelligence.

November 25: New York Times Reporter Katie Rogers

The day before Thanksgiving, Trump attacked veteran New York Times reporter Katie Rogers, calling her assigned to only write bad things about him and labeling her a third-rate reporter who is ugly, both inside and out. This followed a story she wrote on the presidents health and fatigue. The Times affirmed their reporters would not be intimidated by his personal attacks.

Air Force One MRI Questions

Trump was asked about the results of his MRI scans aboard Air Force One. To a female reporter, he claimed he aced his cognitive tests and implied she would be incapable of doing the same. He dismissed her follow-up questions, giving only vague answers about the scans.

November 18: ABC News Mary Bruce

During a state visit from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Trump berated ABC News chief White House correspondent Mary Bruce, calling her a terrible person and a terrible reporter. Bruce asked about Trump Organization dealings in Saudi Arabia and the Khashoggi murder. Trump described her questions as horrible and insubordinate, labeling ABC as one of the worst in the business and suggesting their license could be revoked.

November 16: Bloomberg Reporter

Two days prior, a Bloomberg reporter interrupted Trump while he addressed reporters in Palm Beach, Florida. He responded by calling her the worst and questioning why Bloomberg employed her.

These incidents highlight a pattern of confrontational and disparaging language directed at female journalists in recent weeks, reflecting a broader tension between the former president and the media.
