MSNBC Ratings Unveiled Following Major Rebranding

The newest cable ratings report shows promising results for MS NOW, the recently rebranded news network. It was the only channel to report week-over-week increases in both total viewership and the key Adults 25-54 demographic during primetime and across the full day.

According to data reported by AdWeek, which cites Nielsen panel and big data figures for the week of November 17, MS NOW averaged 1.014 million total viewers and 90,000 viewers in the coveted 25-54 age range during primetime. These numbers reflect a 5% rise in total viewers and a 6% increase in the demo compared to the previous week's primetime average.

MS NOW also saw gains throughout the day, reaching 649,000 total viewers (up 4%) and 60,000 demo viewers (up 7%) from the prior week. This week marked the first full week since MSNBC transitioned to MS NOW, which stands for My Source for News, Opinion, and the World.

NBCUniversal, the network's parent company, recently reorganized, moving MSNBC and other cable channels such as CNBC, USA, Oxygen, and E! under a new entity called Versant.

Among all basic cable networks, MS NOW ranked third in total primetime viewers and slightly shifted in the demo rankings from 12th to 13th. For total day viewing, the network remained in third place for total viewers but dropped from 8th to 9th in the demo.

Year-over-year comparisons show significant growth: primetime viewership rose 54% and demo numbers increased 50%, while total day viewership jumped 34% and demo ratings grew 43%.

The Rachel Maddow Show continued to lead as MS NOW's top program, ranking ninth for the week among cable news shows with an average of 1.826 million total viewers.

Despite these gains, MS NOW remains behind Fox News, which averaged 2.121 million total primetime viewers and 189,000 demo viewers during the same period. Fox News recorded 1.38 million total viewers and 121,000 demo viewers during the full day.

CNNs primetime average was 570,000 total viewers with 103,000 in the demo, while total day viewing averaged 450,000 total viewers and 73,000 demo viewers.
