Patel accuses Biden of withholding evidence in January 6 pipe bomb case

FBI Director Kash Patel has accused the Biden administration of withholding evidence for years in connection with the January 6 pipe bomb case. Patel made the remarks during an interview with Fox News host Trace Gallagher, following the arrest of 30-year-old Brian Cole in the case.

Cole is scheduled to face charges for placing pipe bombs outside the Democratic National Committee and Republican National Committee on January 5, 2021, the night before the Capitol riot. Patel asserted that the previous administration had kept key evidence dormant for four years and did not produce any new information from that period.

Patel explained that identifying the suspect relied heavily on existing evidence, including surveillance footage showing Cole wearing distinctive limited edition shoes. He described the investigative process:

"We mobilized nationwide, brought in experts, and under Deputy Director Dan Bongino, meticulously reviewed every piece of evidence," Patel said. "We examined cell tower data, communications from providers under search warrants, and investigated why certain phone numbers were not analyzed or geo-location data not collected."

He suggested that the Biden administration's handling of the case reflected either "sheer incompetence or deliberate negligence," neither of which he deemed acceptable for the FBI.

Former Attorney General Pam Bondi echoed Patel's criticisms during a Fox News appearance, stating that the case relied on "old evidence, new people," and lamenting that it had been left unresolved for years.
