Report: Kamala Harris Accused of Telling 'Blatant Lies' by Josh Shapiro

WASHINGTON Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro told The Atlantic that former Vice President Kamala Harris made blatant lies about him in her memoir detailing her unsuccessful presidential bid.

During the 2024 election, Shapiro was among the top Democratic contenders for the vice-presidential nomination, alongside former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, as Harris sought a running mate to challenge former President Donald Trump after President Joe Biden exited the race.

In her book 107 Days, Harris wrote that she feared Shapiro might struggle to accept the second-in-command role. She noted, At one point, he mused that he would want to be in the room for every decision. I had a nagging concern that he would be unable to settle for a role as number two and that it would wear on our partnership.

Harris ultimately selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. Both Shapiro and Buttigieg endorsed her campaign, and Shapiro continues to be considered a potential presidential candidate in 2028.

Tim Alberta, the Atlantic reporter who interviewed Shapiro, described the normally composed politician as unrecognizable when speaking about Harris, visibly losing his calm. Shapiro told Alberta, I can tell you that her accounts are just blatant lies. I mean, shes trying to sell books and cover her ass. He later softened the statement, adding, Shes trying to sell books. Period.

Shapiro, who became Pennsylvanias third Jewish governor in 2022 after serving as state attorney general and in the state House, is recognized for his liberal stance on social issues such as abortion. At the same time, he has drawn praise from conservatives for initiatives like expanding school choice and removing the college degree requirement for 65,000 state government positions, actions he took immediately after assuming office.

In addition, Shapiro has survived politically motivated violence. In April, the governors mansion was firebombed while he and his family were inside, though they were unharmed. The perpetrator later pleaded guilty.

Shapiro also holds influence in key swing states, positioning him as a notable figure in Democratic circles despite trailing other contenders, including Buttigieg, in early polls from New Hampshire.
