Trump and Duffy suggest a 'fantastic idea' to revamp 'poor' Dulles airport

WASHINGTON During a Cabinet meeting on December 2, President Donald Trump and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy revealed plans to revamp Dulles International Airport near Washington, D.C., citing its current design as inadequate. While praising the terminal crafted by architect Eero Saarinen, both leaders criticized the rest of the airport as inefficient and in need of major improvements.

"Were going to rebuild Dulles Airport because it doesnt function well," Trump stated. "The terminal is beautiful, but the airport as a whole is not up to standard."

Trump addressed the Cabinet alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth in the White House Cabinet Room. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick was also present. The officials discussed the renovation plans, although no specific details on structural changes were provided. Expanding or relocating runways, for instance, is a complex and costly endeavor that could take years to complete.

"Our goal is to transform Dulles into a world-class airport serving Washington, Virginia, Maryland, and beyond," Trump added. "We have an outstanding plan ready."

Duffy mentioned that the first step involves seeking bids to enhance the airports shuttle system, known as "people movers," following an incident on November 10 when a vehicle collided with a dock, sending 18 passengers to the hospital.

"Currently, Dulles is not a top-tier airport, but we intend to change that," Duffy said. Trump added, "The airport was poorly designed, and we will make it one of the best in the nation."
