Trump Caught Napping in Public Yet Again, Second Time in One Week

President Donald Trump has recently drawn renewed attention over his health. Earlier this year, the White House disclosed that the 79-year-old president was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency and had undergone an MRI for precautionary reasons. According to the report released, the imaging of his heart and abdomen was "completely normal."

Observers have also noticed bandages and bruises on the back of his right hand, which the White House attributed to frequent handshakes.

During a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Trump appeared to doze off intermittently while listening to colleagues. Videos from the event showed him struggling to keep his eyes open during discussions with officials such as Scott Turner and Marco Rubio. Online reactions ranged from concern for his well-being to nicknaming him the "commander in sleep."

While addressing the meeting, Trump claimed he is "sharper than I was 25 years ago," and the White House highlighted his schedule of frequent 12-hour workdays, despite reports suggesting he has been slowing down public engagements.

This is not the first time Trump has appeared to nod off in public. In November, photos circulated showing him with closed eyes in the Oval Office. Earlier, in May, he seemed to fight sleep during a visit to Saudi Arabia, and reports indicate he dozed off during his 2024 criminal trial as well.

On Thursday, during a ceremony celebrating the peace agreement between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Trump was again seen appearing drowsy on camera, prompting widespread online commentary, including from California Governor Gavin Newsom. Many noted the irony, recalling Trumps past nickname for President Joe Biden as "Sleepy Joe."
