President Trump commended the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advisory panel for its recent vote to revise hepatitis B vaccination guidance, calling it a positive move in a post on his platform Truth Social Friday evening.
The CDC Vaccine Committee made a positive decision today to REMOVE the Hepatitis B Vaccine Recommendation for newborns, most of whom face NO RISK of contracting Hepatitis B, a condition primarily spread sexually or through contaminated needles, Trump stated. The U.S. childhood vaccination schedule has long included 72 shots for healthy infants, far exceeding other countries and what is truly necessary. Frankly, its excessive!
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), a critical advisory group within the CDC, voted 8-3 to eliminate the recommendation that all newborns receive the hepatitis B shot at birth. Some medical experts, including representatives from the American Medical Association, have criticized the decision, cautioning it could result in fewer infants receiving the previously recommended vaccines.
Under the updated guidance favored by the panel, the birth dose is advised only for babies born to mothers who test positive for hepatitis B. Full immunization typically requires three doses: one at birth, a second at three months, and a third between six and fifteen months of age.
Many parents and scientists have questioned the current vaccination schedule, and I share those concerns, Trump added. Consequently, I have signed a Presidential Memorandum directing the Department of Health and Human Services to QUICKLY REVIEW international vaccine schedules and adjust the U.S. schedule to align with both scientific evidence and COMMON SENSE!
The ACIPs vote marks the most significant adjustment to vaccination guidelines under the present administration. Both Trump and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. have previously expressed skepticism regarding certain vaccines.
