The White House has highlighted CBS News, owned by David Ellison and managed by Bari Weiss, on its newly created Media Offender of the Week list due to the networks reporting on President Donald Trumps claims of sedition against the so-called Democrat Six.
The list, released on Friday, criticized CBS News alongside The Boston Globe and The Independent for allegedly misrepresenting the presidents response to a video by Senator Mark Kelly and other lawmakers encouraging military personnel to refuse illegal commands.
According to the White House, The media misrepresented President Trumps call for Members of Congress to be held accountable for inciting sedition by suggesting he called for their execution. The statement continued, The Democrats and certain media outlets falsely implied that President Trump had issued unlawful orders to military personnel. Every directive from President Trump has been legal. It is risky for sitting Members of Congress to encourage disobedience in the U.S. military, and President Trump merely advocated for accountability.
CBS News had not responded to requests for comment from TheWrap at the time of reporting. The White Houses Media Offender of the Week page reiterated that Trump has never issued an illegal order, asserting that media outlets were aware but pursued the story regardless.
To support their claims, the White House cited several articles, arguing that news organizations often misrepresent and exaggerate Trumps calls for accountability among Democrats. Specific journalists named included Alyssa Vega (The Boston Globe), Andrew Feinberg (The Independent), Eric Garcia (The Independent), and Nancy Cordes (CBS News).
The listing comes shortly after Trump publicly insulted Cordes, calling her a stupid person during questioning about the vetting of a Washington, D.C. shooting suspect linked to the death of a National Guardsman. The inclusion of CBS News is notable given Trumps connections to the Ellison family, as Larry Ellison, Oracle co-founder, is a prominent supporter, and his son David now leads Paramount Skydance, which reportedly has been involved in discussions about a Rush Hour 4 project and potential acquisitions involving Warner Bros. Discovery.
On Saturday morning, Washington Post reporter Scott Nover noted on X that the media tracker website experienced downtime, showing an error page after a misattributed question involving Fox News. The site was operational again later that morning.
