Yankees expected to sign $460 million four-time All-Star, World Series champion in case Cody Bellinger leaves in free agency

The New York Yankees, fresh off their ALDS defeat to the Toronto Blue Jays, could be facing the potential loss of star outfielder Cody Bellinger to free agency. With AL East rivals actively strengthening their rosters, the Yankees may need to act fast.

According to Bleacher Reports Kerry Miller, if Bellinger leaves, New York should target a major free-agent, and the ideal candidate could be Chicago Cubs All-Star outfielder Kyle Tucker.

"It may sound unusual to consider the top free agent as a backup plan, but that could be the situation for the Yankees. They need a significant boost in the outfield, and apart from Harrison Bader and Ryan O'Hearn, Bellinger and Tucker stand out as the primary options this winter," Miller noted.

Last season, Tucker posted a .266/.377/.464/.841 slash line with 25 doubles, 22 home runs, 73 RBIs, and 25 stolen bases across 136 games. As a left-handed hitter like Bellinger, Tucker could benefit from Yankee Stadiums Short Porch, potentially boosting his home run totals.

The Yankees are expected to face stiff competition from other top teams in pursuit of Tucker. Ownership must be prepared to invest, even if Hal Steinbrenner has reservations. Securing Tucker would ensure a powerful bat in the outfield and a cornerstone for New Yorks future after Aaron Judge.
