Trump receives inaugural FIFA Peace Prize during World Cup selection ceremony

On Friday, President Trump was presented with the first-ever FIFA Peace Prize, a new accolade introduced by the global soccer organization in anticipation of next years World Cup, which will be partly hosted in the United States. FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who has cultivated a close relationship with Trump over recent months, awarded the honor during the event that determined the tournaments group stage matchups.

Infantino praised Trump, saying, You truly merit the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize for your achievements, accomplished in a remarkable manner. You can always rely, Mr. President, on my support and that of the entire soccer community to advance peace and prosperity worldwide.

Trump described the recognition as one of the greatest honors of his life. During the ceremony, a video presentation at the Kennedy Center, where the World Cup draw was held, highlighted Trumps role in facilitating the Abraham Accords in the Middle East, as well as diplomatic agreements between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and Rwanda and Congo.

The FIFA Peace Prize comes after Trump was not awarded the Nobel Peace Prize earlier this year. Trump and his supporters have long emphasized his foreign policy successes, with Infantino notably advocating for him to receive the Nobel honor. The FIFA president has strengthened his ties with Trump over the past year as preparations for the 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, continue.
